Pitching Provincial Leisure

hello journalists! We are delighted that you are interested in pitching a story for PROVINCIALLEISURE.com. Provincial Leisure's mission is to take readers on a journey around the world and inform them about the finest in travel. Our goal is to make travel easier, smarter, and safer for people. With inclusive coverage that includes BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled communities, we are always looking for those who can report and personalize stories about travel.

Please read the following guidelines before submitting your pitch.

  1. Pitch Original Stories that could guide readers in their search query (i.e., If someone searched "Idyllic Paris Airbnb's", your article could be the answer).

  2. Please check if we have already covered the story and/or destination. Can you offer a unique perspective we did not consider?

  3. Are there any other publications that have addressed this issue? What will make your story unique?

  4. Think carefully about whether you are qualified to tell a specific story, especially if it pertains to a marginalized community that you are not a part of. In this case, please inform us why you are the ideal candidate to write the article and which voices you will include.

  5. If your trip was sponsored in any way, be sure you have 100% authorization to tell the story.

In your pitch, please include a suggested headline, an angle, a few sources and/or quotes, and a discussion of why this story is relevant at this time. Please do not send more than one or two paragraphs. Submit your pitch to our editorial team here.

2022 Hot Topics

PL Picks | You may be able to get published with provincial leisure through PL Picks. This is a series of short articles that discuss the top attractions in particular destinations. Covering topics such as restaurants, hotels, airbnbs, and cultural & community highlights (for example, "where to find Lao cuisine in Los Angeles").

ACCESSIBILITY | In the United States, one out of four adults lives with a disability, and 60 percent suffer from a chronic illness of some sort. It is important that those with chronic conditions are not prevented from traveling. We are actively searching for accessible travel experiences with detailed accessibility information.

Travel Guides | We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the coverage we already have on the destination to which you plan to pitch. The pitch should provide an explanation of how this story complements or enhances that coverage. Our interest is not in the destination itself. We seek stories that impact the way people experience A destination - whether they are culturally specific, news related, trending, or stylish. You will be given preference if you are based in the city or spend a significant amount of time in the destination you're covering.

DAY TRIPS | More than ever, people are searching for ways to escape the city, reconnect with nature, and simply unwind. Specifically, we are seeking authentic stories about the best day trips, especially those that involve leaving a major city (such as New York City) for the day and traveling to some place accessible by public transportation and/or less than 1.5 hours driving.

culinary stories | Here are some things we are looking for in food stories: guides for navigating local food and drink scenes, thoughtful pieces that highlight a regional culinary tradition or trend, and news-driven profiles or interviews with chefs. A community's culinary traditions can have a profound impact on a city or place and we are always interested in articles that explore this.

VRBO & AIRBNB’S | WE’RE LOOKING FOR STORIES ABOUT UNIQUE RENTALS ALL OVER THE WORLD! WITH AIRBNB’S NEW ‘CATEGORIES’ section, WE LOVE TO SEE STORIES THAT DETAIL THE BEST OF EACH OFFERED category.

Note: We would prefer stories about rental locations you have previously stayed at; however, we will accept submissions that cover these locations based on their profile and listing.
