San Gregorio Garbage removal
If you're staying in San Gregorio da Sassola, understanding the garbage removal services is helpful. Here's a straightforward guide to how trash collection works in our community!
In San Gregorio, all our rental properties use a paid service that picks up your garbage from your doorstep every morning. It operates much like hotel room service for removing dining trays. However, since you're staying in homes, we must adhere to Italy's recycling protocols and the community's specific guidelines for trash disposal.
YOUR schedule
Place outside sunday evening after 8PM or, Monday Morning before 8AM. Your host will send you a photo of where your trash hook is located outside your door!
MONDAY: ORGANIC WASTE
"Organic" materials are those that can be recycled into compost for farming later. If you have a plastic container with strawberries that you want to dispose of, simply put the strawberries in your organic trash bag and the plastic in the designated plastics bin.
TUESDAY: PAPER
Paper, or "carta" in Italian, is simple to recycle. Just place your paper trash out for removal.
NOTE: If you have a large box you need to dispose of, you'll have to break it down so that the pieces fit into a regular-sized trash bag.
WEDNESDAY: PLASTICS
Again, it's straightforward: this is just about removing plastic. If you have larger water bottles, they ask that you "smash" them down before placing them in the bag for removal.
THURSDAY: ORGANIC WASTE
Thursday is the second day of the week designated for removing food waste. Note that organic food doesn't have to be all in one bag; multiple tiny bags are okay too, as long as they contain only food. Friendly reminder from farmers: "If the chickens can't eat it, it doesn't belong in the organic trash!"
FRIDAY: NON-RECYCLABLE MATERIAL
Non-recyclable materials include items that cannot be processed or repurposed into new products through recycling methods. These may include:
Contaminated materials: Items soiled with food, grease, or other substances that cannot be effectively recycled.
Hazardous waste: Materials that pose a threat to human health or the environment, such as batteries, chemicals, or certain devices.
Composite materials: Products made from multiple materials that cannot be easily separated for recycling, like certain types of packaging or laminated papers.
Styrofoam: Expanded polystyrene foam, commonly known as Styrofoam, is often not recyclable due to its lightweight and composition.
SATURDAY: GLASS/METAL/ORGANIC
On Saturday, you can dispose of all your leftover glass wine bottles, beer bottles, etc. Additionally, you can include metal cans like coke cans (they ask you smash them down same as the plastics).
It's also the third day of the week for organic food pickup, following the same rules as before.
🚫 SUNDAY — NO TRASH SERVICES 🚫
THE MOST IMPORTANt RULE
In San Gregorio, there are many friendly cats around! If your trash touches the ground, the cats might mistake it for a gift and open it all over the sidewalk 😹. it's important to always place your trash on the hook or spot designated for each property (your host will provide a photo for each location).
Thanks for your cooperation!
MIXED TRASH
San Gregorio doesn't offer ‘mixed trash collection’, but central Rome does. If you're traveling anywhere in the city and need to dispose of a mixed bag of garbage in your rental vehicle, it can be convenient, especially for longer stays or if you've accidentally mixed organic waste.
Look for bins all over the Central City marked Indifferenziato.
